The Ugly Mug

The Ugly Mug (open mic) – December 27, 2021

Twenty Twenty-one afforded few opportunities to perform live, but I was able to visit The Ugly Mug twice before the close of the year. I’ve been a regular patroon of the cafe since the mid-1990s, and I first performed at their weekly open mic in 2009. I’m hoping there will be more opportunities to perform in 2022!

  1. Old Year, Fly Away, by Wellesley Shatwell
  2. A Prayer, by Clinton Scollard
  3. Wood Song, by Sara Teasdale
  4. I Love Too Much, by Sara Teasdale

The Ugly Mug (open mic) – November 15, 2021

First open mic in nearly two years. I debuted the following:

1. “The Answer” (1915), by Sara Teasdale
2. “Leaves” (1915), by Sara Teasdale

Sara Teasdale contributed three poems to Poetry, A Magazine of Verse, in 1915, including the two selections above and “Morning.” These were subsequently published in Rivers to the Sea, also published in 1915.

My 34th open mic appearance at The Ugly Mug.

2. “My Childhood Home I See Again” (1846), by Abraham Lincoln

My 33rd open mic performance at The Ugly Mug.
