Coleman Still (open mic) – October 5, 2009

I was bummed a few months ago when arriving at Ye Olde Royal Oak for the Sunday night open mic, I discovered it had been replaced with karaoke. Shortly afterward, Ye Olde Royal Oak shut its doors. Not long ago, a new owner reopened the bar/restaurant as the Coleman Still, which was the original name of the place back in the day when they served rabbit. Unfortunately, rabbit is not on the menu, but the open mic is back, under the leadership of Suzy Q.

Back in March this year, I decided to perform my own material on a more regular basis. Up until several months ago, I played but once a year. Ye Olde Royal Oak was the first place I visited (see here). A lot has changed since then. I’ve got more material. And I’m more practiced. I’m glad the Sunday-night open mic is back. Tonight I played…

1. With or Without You (U2)
2. Blowing in the Wind (Dylan)
3. Scarborough Fair (traditional, arrangement)

4. All Along the Watchtower (Dylan)
5. “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” by T.S. Eliot (abridged, arrangement)
6. Knocking on Heaven’s Door (Dylan)

7. All I Want Is You (U2)
8. I Need You (original)
